In a historic milestone for Oman’s healthcare sector, the Royal Hospital successfully performed the nation’s first robotic-assisted surgery, marking a significant leap forward in smart medical technologies and positioning Oman as a regional leader in innovative surgical practices. This achievement results from years of meticulous planning, specialized training, and the integration of cutting-edge global surgical innovations, aligning with Oman’s Vision 2040 for a knowledge-driven, technologically advanced healthcare system.

The procedure was led by Dr. Qais bin Mohammed Al Hooti, a Consultant Urologist at RH, who highlighted that the operation utilized one of the most advanced robotic systems, offering surgeons a three-dimensional visualization and ultra-precise control that surpasses manual techniques. He emphasized that robotic surgery enables access to complex and deep anatomical regions with high accuracy and minimal invasiveness, leading to benefits such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, faster recovery times, enhanced safety, and decreased complication rates.

Looking ahead, Dr. Al Hooti announced plans to expand robotic surgery to other specialties, including colorectal, obstetrics and gynecology, hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal, and cardiothoracic surgery. The Ministry of Health is committed to training and empowering local medical professionals to establish Oman as a regional hub for advanced robotic procedures, fostering local expertise and innovation.

The surgical team confirmed that the robotic system provided superior precision and control compared to traditional methods, resulting in fewer complications and quicker patient rehabilitation. The intelligent surgical platform allows surgeons to operate via a console with a magnified 3D view, enhancing maneuverability and surgical success.

This pioneering development signifies a new chapter in Oman’s medical landscape, reinforcing its position among regional leaders adopting smart healthcare solutions. It underscores the nation’s dedication to leveraging technology to improve patient outcomes and aligns with its broader vision of a progressive, digitally integrated healthcare future, driven by the belief that the Omani individual remains central to progress and innovation.
